DB DeAngelo Smith: Corner Brought Back, Defensive End Let Go by John M. Crist of BearReport.com, October 6, 2009 at 9:18pm ET
DeAngelo Smith Profile
The Midway Monsters made another move on their practice squad Tuesday, signing CB DeAngelo Smith and terminating the contract of DE Joe Clermond.
Smith, originally a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys in the 2009 NFL Draft, was a member of the 53-man roster earlier this year after the Bears waived/injured CB Trumaine McBride. But he was inactive for two games and subsequently released so Chicago could sign LB Darrell McClover after injuries thinned out all three linebacker positions. A 5-11, 210-pounder out of Cincinnati, Smith fits the mold of the taller, stronger corner the Bears prefer in their Cover-2 scheme.
Clermond, an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh, had been a part of the Chicago practice squad at times last season, too.
