Florida RB High On Bearcats

With not having signed a running back last season the Bearcats are hoping to land one from the Sunshine State for 2011.

Florida Air Academy star J.J. Keels has seen his recruitment heat up as of late thanks to a strong showing at camps over the summer. Keels reports that he ranked first at the National Underclassman Camp and the Nike Combine while placing second at the Under Armor Combine and the Ultimate 100.

"Since the camps it seems like teams have been coming out of the woodwork," Keels joked.

Keels has seen his offer list grow the past two weeks picking up offers from Cincinnati and Vanderbilt. He also has offers from Texas Tech, Florida International, West Virginia, Duke, Memphis and Maryland.

When asked if he had any favorites at this point he named his two most recent offers: Cincinnati and Vanderbilt.

Keels was born in Dayton, OH before moving to Florida and Keels said he would like to get back to the area.

"I was born and raised in Ohio at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Cincinnati would be great to go home to," Keels said.

As far as Vanderbilt, Keels says he enjoys the family feeling the coaching has provided.

"Talking to the coaches, automatically they welcomed me into the family and were telling me all of the good things they like about me," Keels said. "And education is one thing that my family strives for and that's one thing that Vanderbilt has for sure."

Keels reports a 3.3 GPA at the Florida Air Academy.

Keels said he plans on taking official visits to Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Texas Tech during the school year but does not have the dates set for those visits yet and has targeted February for making a decision.

As a junior, Keels ran for more than 1,800 yards and 23 touchdowns and hopes to top 2,000 yards this season.
