Insider Game Balls Rutgers – Defense

The season opener was to be a very big deal for Rutgers, someone forgot to tell Brian Kelly and his team as the Bearcats rolled the Knights for a giant opening week and Big East win. Bearcat Insider issues Game Balls after each game and here is this week's honors list for defense.

Bob Diaco: The Bearcats defensive coordinator saw his team struggle on an early drive but settle down and perform like they had during preseason camp. The defense played fast and caused Rutgers many problems in a decisive victory on the road. Hello 3-4 defense…

Curtis Young: We've been saying since the start of camp that Curtis was going to have a huge season. On Monday he showed what he's capable of by totaling 11 tackles (3-for loss) and a sack to go with 2 quarterback hurries.

Aaron Webster: As the only returning starter much was expected of Webster and he delivered with a 10 tackle 1 interception performance in the Bearcats big win. He also gave a major hit while taking one take saw him miss only one play before returning.

Brad Jones: Jones went under the radar but enjoyed a great game with 7 total tackles.

Demetrius Jones: The former quarterback now linebacker showed Brian Kelly understands what to do with his players. Jones posted 7 total tackles (2.5 for loss) and an interception.

Alex Daniels: The senior may be listed as a back-up but plays like a starter posting 7 total tackles (1 for loss) and a sack in the Bearcats victory.

Brandon Mills: Mills posted 3 tackles with a big sack and forced a safety in the win. Gives the Bearcats some very good depth.

Andre Revels: The senior picked up where he left off last season posting 7 tackles (1 for loss).

Ricardo Mathews: Another senior who continues to improve his game posted 3 tackles 1.5 being for sacks and a loss of 13 yards for Rutgers.

Dan Giordano: Another player that has taken his game to another level and gives the Bearcats very good depth. Dan posted 2 tackles (.05 for loss) and a quarterback hurry.

J.K. Schaffer: The sophomore linebacker played very well posting 2 tackles while also having an interception.
