Bearcats Offer 2009 Quarterback

Bearcats Offer 2009 Quarterback

Bearcats offer athletic quarterback for the Class of 2009.

Standing 6-foot-3, 19-pounds Battle Ground Academy quarterback Jamal Ramsey has been hearing from several programs. But it was Brian Kelly and his staff that pulled the trigger giving the Tennessee signal caller his first offer.

Ramsey who has only played one year of varsity football posted some nice numbers as a dual threat quarterback and safety. Transferring from a public school to a private school made Ramsey have to sit out his sophomore season under Tennessee High School rules, but as a junior he went 6-1 as a starter passing for 591 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for 334 yards and 4 scores. With only 2 interceptions Ramsey hit 58% of his passes and accounted for 70% of his team's offense.

After suffering an injury to his non-throwing arm and missing the final three games of the season, it was easy to see how much of a factor he played in his team's success as they went 0-3 without him.

On defense Ramsey recorded 20 tackles with 2 pass breakups but according to his father the Bearcats want him as a quarterback.

"Coach Forest called the school today and spoke with coach Tim Johnson and myself," said Lamont Ramsey father of Jamal and an assistant coach at the school. "Coach Forest told me he really likes what Jamal does as a player and they are offering him a full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati."

When Bearcat Insider spoke with Coach Ramsey his son had yet been told about his first offer.

"Jamal is in the weight room right now and we've not told him about the offer. But I called his mother and she was very excited. This is really exciting for us as Jamal use to sit and watch Cincinnati play when they were part of Conference USA with his uncle and me. We use to talk about how he could play at a school like Cincinnati and now to get an offer from there is very exciting. We're going to let Coach Forest tell him he's got the offer when he calls him back in a little bit."

One thing Coach Ramsey brought up during our conversation was the fact Coach Forest talked about how the Cincinnati offense is fitted for Jamal.

"Coach Forest told us they like having a dual-threat quarterback and really throw the ball around. We're going to visit on March 6-th to learn more about Cincinnati, the football staff and university."

Here is a video highlight clip of Ramsey from his junior season and we'll have more with Jamal himself this weekend.
