The Bearcats hope to keep their winning streak alive as they play the Marshall Thundering Herd at 7:30 tonight in Nippert Stadium.

Here at Bearcat Insider, we usually formally announce the importance of each Bearcat game with an “It’s Game Day!” post on the message board.  I’ve changed the tradition slightly by incorporating it into a short game day story.

The Marshall Thundering Herd have a great football tradition complete with Division IAA national championships and Division IA bowl games, but the men in green have fallen on tough times of late as they have not had a winning season since 2003.  Prior to head coach Mark Snyder’s arrival in Huntington, Marshall’s last losing season was 1983.

The Bearcat defense leads the country in interceptions and turnover margin and are ranked #25 in total defense.  This is obviously an excellent ranking, but #25 in the country puts Cincinnati no higher than fifth in its own league.  The BIG EAST may boast four legitimate Heisman Trophy candidates, but this is a conference built on defense.  Six of the BIG EAST defenses are ranked in the top 33 in the country with Rutgers leading the way at #7 closely followed by UConn at #8.

As the Bearcat defense prepares for The Herd offense, Cincinnati defensive coordinator, Joe Tresey identified Marshall quarterback, Bernard Morris, as the best quarterback they have faced this year.  Morris is fighting a turf toe issue but is expected to return to his starting position after a home loss last week to IAA New Hampshire.

Now it time for our traditional post: IT’S GAME DAY, BEARCAT FANS!!!  Time for Bearcat fans to strap on the helmet, apply the eyeblack and DEFINITELY wear that cup because IT’S GAME DAY, and ANYTHING can happen on GAME DAY!!!
