Darrin Williams-Recruiting Update

Darrin Williams-Recruiting Update

Bearcat Insider checked in with Darrin Williams on Monday to get the latest.

When Bearcat Insider spoke with Detroit Martin Luther King's running back Darrin Williams, he said he had just returned home after visiting his brother in Florida for the weekend.  But prior to flying to the Sunshine State with his family, Williams helped King High School to a 7-0 victory over Renaissance High on Thursday night to improve its record to 2-0.  Williams said he was unable to get into the end zone but did pick-up 138 yards on 17 carries.

In King's opening game victory the previous week against Mumford High School, the 5' 7/180 pounder gained 149 yards on 24 carries and scored three times.

Despite being verbally committed to the Bearcats, Williams is continuing to be recruited by other schools.  "I just got offers from Eastern and Central Michigan, and several Big Ten schools are recruiting me."  Williams identified Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa as three of the Big Ten schools continuing to show interest.  He also said he wasn't surprised that the Wolverines were beaten by Appalachian State this weekend.  "I really wasn't surprised at all.  Appalachian State has won two IAA championships, and Michigan doesn't have enough speed."

Although he said he was still committed to Cincinnati, he indicated that he may still take other visits.  "I might take some other visits.  My parents want me to."  Williams plans to take his official visit to Cincinnati on the weekend of November 17 for the West Virginia game.

This Thursday evening, Darrin is planning to watch ESPN.  "I can't remember his name, but I like Oregon State's running back.  I know he's #26."  Darrin was referring to Cincinnati's televised game Thursday night against Oregon State and their star running back Yvenson Bernard.  The Beaver tailback is similar in size to Williams although Darrin admits Bernard is a bit bulkier.  "He's a little bigger than I am, but they'll put that weight on me when I get there."  At least for now, "there" would presumably be the University of Cincinnati, but nothing will be official until a letter of intent is signed in February.

Bearcat Insider will continue to give periodic updates on Darrin Williams.
