Saturday morning saw J.K. Schaffer and his LaSalle teammates looking to battle at the Miami University 7-on-7 event.
While all eyes were on DeVier Posey, the 6-foot-1 linebacker prospect continues to show his athletic ability and stood out from the crowd.
After one of his games we had the chance to speak with J.K. about how his recruiting was going and still found him holding just an offer from Ohio. I’ve seen J.K. several times this spring and summer and each time I come away impressed and surprised by the slow pace of his recruiting.
When looking around at other players of his caliber I look at Steve Gardiner (Dublin Coffman HS), B.J. Machen (Hilliard Darby HS- verbal to Georgia Tech), Jamiihr Williams (Trotwood-Madison HS) and another Cincinnati product who had a UC offer in Fred Craig (Stanford commitment).
Schaffer has all the tools of those mentioned above and may be a better package. He’s just a tad taller than Gardiner with the same 4.4 speed. He’s faster than most people have Machen recorded at and looks in better shape than Williams. Only Craig is taller with Schaffer holding the slightest advantage in the speed area. But here is what I like most about J.K. Schaffer; he’s just turned 17 in June. He’s a young player who should only be a junior in high school. Just think what he would do if he had the next two years to impress college coaches.
Since Saturday J.K. and his teammates continue getting ready to open camp and start the 2007 season. Cincinnati is now on his official offers list and don’t be surprised if he becomes the next member of the Bearcats Class of 2008.
