NUMBER SIX
The sixth biggest story involving the Bearcats athletic program is really two separate stories with both ending with the Bearcats having earned Big East titles on the field of play.
The first event took place in May as Bearcats football player John Bowie captured the 100 meter dash Big East title in a personal-best 10.52. Also the 4x100 relay team also won a Big East title crossing the line in 40.57. The titles were the first for Cincinnati in their new conference in what’s sure to be many to come.
Not to be left out the first ever team Big East title was earned by the men’s soccer program. The Bearcats soccer program headed by head coach Hylton Dayes enjoyed a great season with marquee wins against Notre Dame (12) and St. Johns (23) and tough losses to highly ranked teams SMU (1) and West Virginia (3) at the time of play.
The team also earned recognition in the national polls during the season.
With director of athletics Mike Thomas demanding all Bearcats be Big East Champions, it looks as if the Red & Black should be seeing more trophies in their impressive trophy case in the new Lindner Varsity Village.
