Dave Berk of Bearcat Insider reported on October 21st that the Bearcats had made an official scholarship offer to Will Johnson of Centerville High School. Johnson and his mother attended the Cincinnati/Syracuse game last Saturday at Nippert Stadium. The Johnsons sat with ex-Chaminade-Julienne teammates Joe Homan and Rob Trigg. Johnson transferred from Chaminade-Julienne to Centerville last year.
Bearcat Insider spoke to Will the next day about his unofficial visit to Cincinnati. "It was fine. The guys showed me a lot of love, and I got to talk to Coach Dantonio." The conversation with Coach Dantonio took place in the head coach's office. Will summarized the visit. "My area coach was trying to set up an official visit, but Coach Dantonio talked about the limited scholarships that they had and how they are going down to recruit the Florida area. I don't know if he was giving me a time limit, but he said they wanted me and told me how many scholarships they had left."
Will said the Bearcats are looking at him to play safety or wide receiver. Of the two positions, Will prefers wide receiver.
Although there was no clear deadline for accepting or rejecting Cincinnati's offer, Will knows Coach Dantonio was only trying to be upfront with him about the program‘s available scholarships. He has not set-up an official visit with the Bearcats but knew many prospects will be taking their official visits in early December.
When asked about the main attractions to becoming a Bearcat, Will replied. "Coach Dantonio overall and how he's running the program. It's close to home, and I just like what they're doing. I think they'll be real good in the next couple years."
Will was then asked if he will consider a conference before selecting a college. "I look at those things-the better opportunity to play in a bigger conference."
Bearcat Insider will check back with Will in a few weeks.
