Bearcats Get Verbal #3 For 2007

The University of Cincinnati received it's third commitment for the Class of 2007 today from one of Ohio's best kept secretes. A super athlete who will bring the type of speed needed to help the Bearcats continue their climb to the top of the Big East. Read on to learn who the newest Bearcat is.

Today University of Cincinnati Bearcats head football coach Mark Dantonio received a call.  On the line was the newest member of the Bearcats class of 2007 Scott Johnson of Middletown High School.  Scott's high school coach Ron Johnson gave Bearcat Insider the inside scoop on one of his many D-I prospects.

"Scott made the call today and informed the coaches at Cincinnati he wanted to become a Bearcat."

What type of player has Coach Dantonio received a verbal commitment from?

"Scott is a special athlete who ran a 4.26 at Indiana's camp this summer.  He's also ran a 10.46 in the 100 meter.  He benches 365 pounds and can squat 525 pounds at this time.  He comes from a great family and his brother is at Kent State for track.  (Scott's brother Mark was a 2-time state track champion).  Scott stands 5'11" and weights 197 pounds right now."

One area the Bearcats have been hitting hard is players who bring speed and explosiveness to the field.  Johnson can do that according to his coach who is a former Division One College Coach himself.

"Scott is a very explosive athlete who brings a lot to the table.  He's a great fit for UC and should have a great career as a Bearcat.  He's playing some H-back for us and I'm sure Pat Narduzzi would love to get him as an outside backer with the type of speed and size he'd bring to the defense he runs"

Other areas Coach Johnson touched on about Scott were his academics.

"Scott carried a 3.67 GPA last year and is already a qualifier."

On if any of his other top players are interested in becoming Bearcats the Middletown head coach was quick to respond.

"I think now with Scott being on board they will all be looking hard at UC.  I'm sure Scott will now be recruiting his high school teammates to follow him to Cincinnati.  The UC staff did a great job of recruiting him and they've been doing a great job of building the program since they came there.  All of those coaches are great guys."

Bearcat Insider will have more on the latest Bearcat commitment as we speak with Scott about his choice to make Cincinnati his college home.  I would like to thank Coach Ron Johnson of Middletown High School for his time in doing this interview.  The Middies battle Moeller this week in a game many will be watching.
