Newest Bearcat Talks About His Choice

Newest Bearcat Talks About His Choice

What a difference a year makes for fans of the University of Cincinnati men's basketball program. This time last year you didn't have talk of recruits giving verbal commitments or even wanting to be part of the program, now, with head coach Mick Cronin at the helm things have taken positive steps in all areas of the program.

Today Bearcat fans have their first high school commitment for the Class of 2007 to talk about in shooting guard Larry Davis from Alief, Texas and Hastings High School.

Bearcat Insider caught up with Larry Davis I and the newest Bearcat Larry Davis II on Tuesday night to talk about being a Bearcat and more.

We first spoke with the father of the newest commitment to the Bearcats basketball family about his son on and off the court.

BCI: Tell us a little about your son?

Larry Davis I : Larry is a very good person.  He's a little shy, but overall he's really a good guy.

BCI: What does Larry like to do most?

Larry Davis I :  He really likes to play ball.

BCI: Can you give us your thoughts about your son as an athlete?

Larry Davis I : Being his father you know I'm going to be a little bias, but I feel he's a hell of an athlete to be honest.  He's got size and great ability.  He's very versatile and I feel he can play the 1 – 2 or 3.  He's able to do a lot of things other players his size can't do.

BCI: Can you talk about your son's choice of Cincinnati and what type of support you've given you son in this decision?

Larry Davis I : I've told him from the very beginning this was his choice and I'd support him in his decision.  He had other programs closer to home he could have chosen to play at, but Cincinnati plays the type of basketball he really likes to play in getting up and down the court.  He made a good decision and he's got my full support.

BCI: Does it make it easier to know he'll be on television a lot playing in the Big East?

Larry Davis I : Not really.  I would really like to be at all of his games and understand I'm going to miss a lot of them.  But he has to do what's right and Cincinnati is the right place for him.

BCI: What are your impressions of Coach Cronin?

Larry Davis I : I'm very pleased from what I've seen out Coach Cronin and his staff.

BCI would like to thank Mr. Davis for taking the time and talking with us about his son and his college choice.  We then switched over and spoke with the newest Bearcat Larry Davis II.

BCI: What sold you on Cincinnati?

Larry Davis II : I had the chance to talk with Coach Cronin and really liked what he's doing not only on the court basketball wise, but also what the University of Cincinnati has to offer me as a student.

BCI: Talk about your game and what you bring to the table?

Larry David II : I like to take the ball to the hole and score and make big plays on defense.

BCI: Did UC playing in the Big East make any difference to you as a player?

Larry Davis II : My AAU coach played in the Big East at Villanova and he explained to me about how hard the competition would be and how it would allow me to become a better player.

BCI: You've given your verbal here in August, is this a solid commitment or one where you're looking at other programs still?

Larry Davis II : This is a solid commitment.

BCI: What do you feel is the areas you need to work on and what's your greatest strength as a player?

Larry Davis II : I need to continue to work on my foot movement on defense.  My strength is shooting the ball.

BCI: What would you tell Bearcat fans if you had the chance to speak with them?

Larry Davis II : I'd tell them I'm a very humble guy.

BCI: Talk about Coach Cronin?

Larry Davis II : Coach Cronin cares about you not just as a basketball player, but as a person.  He stresses the importance of getting an education and wants his players to earn their degrees.

BCI: Have you given any thought about what you may study in college?

Larry Davis II: I'm looking at studying Criminal Justice at this time.

Bearcat Insider would like to thank the Davis family for giving us the time to learn more about the decision of becoming the newest member of the Bearcats basketball family.  We'll talk with Larry when he returns from his official visit in a few weeks. Recommended Stories
