University of Cincinnati Men's Basketball Coach Mick Cronin saw the first two players of his program sign on the dotted line today. While no surprise, Cronin saw Marvin Gentry and John Williamson send in their official paperwork to become Bearcats.
Gentry, a 6'3 guard from McLennan Community College averaged 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists while earning North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors this past season.
Williamson, a 6'6 forward averaged 27.4 points and 11.7 rebounds this past season for Cincinnati State playing for former Bearcats Andre Tate and Erik Martin.
Coach Cronin had the following to say by press release after the signings.
"Both of these young men are great additions to our program, both for their talent and athletic ability as well as their character," stated Cronin.
"Marvin has a great personality and is a guy our fans are going to love. He is an all-around good player who has a great mid-range game and the ability to put the ball on the floor and make plays," Cronin continued. "What excites me the most is his defense. He has long arms and great anticipation."
"John is a great young man. As a player, he is strong and explosive and is an excellent finisher," Cronin noted. "He can score in a number of ways. Obviously, we need him to be able to help us right away. I think that will be a smooth transition for him because of the great coaches at Cincinnati State who taught him how to work hard and play hard."
While the Bearcats have more scholarships open, don't expect Coach Cronin to rush into just taking any player available. Bearcat Insider will continue to follow those players who show interest in the Cincinnati program and report on each of them.
