While the game saw the Bearcats blown away by the RedHawks, there were still
some performances worth noting. Here are our MVP’s and Game Balls for Miami.
OFFENSE
MVP
Dominick Goodman: While there really wasn’t much to write home about on the
offensive side of the ball, one performance that should have Bearcat fans
excited was the play of “True” freshman Dominick Goodman. The former Colerain
Cardinal saw his first extensive action of his career and hauled in 5 catches
for 64 yards and his first career touchdown. Dominick also returned 4 kickoffs
for 77 yards as Mike Daniels went down with an injury and missed most of the
game.
Game Balls
Nick Davila: The backup quarterback came in to mop up the game and showed why
the Bearcats staff was excited about getting him. In running the last series of
the game, Davila ended up helping the team score its second touchdown of the
night when he connected with Dominick Goodman. Overall Nick completed 5 of 7
passes for 49 yards and one touchdown.
Derick Ross: With the Bearcats throwing the ball 46 times, Ross hauled in 7
of the passes for 57 yards with a long of 16 yards against the RedHawks.
Brent Celek: The junior tight end hauled in 5 passes for 42 yards and showed
his toughness against the RedHawks.
DEFENSE
MVP
3-Way Tie
While the overall performance of the defense didn’t live up to standards,
three players knew they were going to be picked on and ended up having to make too
many tackles. When your defensive backs are making lots of tackles, things are
not going to good.
Dominic Ross, Haruki Nakamura and Mike Mickens share Bearcat Insiders
defensive MVP’s. While each player had their moments, all three collected 6 solo
tackles each and posted double figured tackles overall.
Game Balls
Anthony Williams: While posting 9 assisted tackles, Williams was able to give
Miami quarterbacks a little pressure.
Corey Smith: While not an overall great game, Smith is showing why he’s going
to become a great linebacker for the Bearcats.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Marshwan Gilyard: The “True” freshman gave Bearcat fans their first taste of
his talents when he returned a kickoff return for 60 yards during the game.
While the RedHawks decided to kick more towards Goodman, the one time they
didn’t Gilyard showed his skills.
