Bearcat Insider is working on putting together our Super 50 Ohio Football
Prospects for the Class of 2006. To start this process we'll take a look at each
position and give you our thoughts on players who we consider canidates were
considering for the Super 50 list.
RUNNING BACKS CLASS OF 2006
Chris Wells
(6’1”, 220)
Akron Garfield High School
Jeremy: Wells has unparalleled size, speed and strength, not
much else to say here, #1 player in Ohio.
Dave: What's not to like about the player everyone in Ohio
has pegged as the next Mr. Football. Size, power and speed sets this player
apart from the rest in the class. A must get for any program and by far the
number one prospect in Ohio if not the country.
Delone Carter
(5’10”, 190)
Copley High School
Jeremy: Slick runner, who plays much bigger than he really
is, will be a solid college back who could possibly be an all conference
player.
Dave: Could Deleone be this years Sutton? While he doesn't
have the size of Wells, don't be fooled, he's built solid and plays bigger. Very
impressive back with good vision to find the open holes.
Jacob Ramsey
(5’11”, 210)
Columbus Independence High School
Jeremy: The enigma of this class due to an ankle injury in
2004. A tough blue collar runner who looks the part and shows an explosion in
camps that demonstrates no ill effects of the ankle injury. One of my favorites,
and despite what others say, I don't need to see him this fall to say this,
Jacob Ramsey is one of the top backs in Ohio. Who is playing this season with a
chip on his shoulder. Tough luck for the teams playing Independence.
Dave: First saw this kid at Cincinnati camp. Stands out
above the rest and in any other year would be talked about as the top back in
the state. Some look at him as a linebacker but not me. I've seen coaches drool
over this kid in the past few weeks and all look at him as a running back.
Coming back from an injury that cost him his junior year and has a chip on his
shoulder to prove he belongs.
Lance Smith
(5’11”, 190)
Warren Howland High School
Jeremy: Explosion is the best word to describe Smith,
literally running through tackles, slides through holes effectively. And is
certainly able to run away from defenders.
Dave: A player many are talking about that has the total
package. Good size and great speed set Lance apart from the rest. Some talk
about putting him at receiver but I feel the kid needs to get the ball in his
hands as many times as possible.
Terrence Sherrer
(5’10”, 190)
Cincinnati Colerain High School
Jeremy: To be a running back at Colerain you must be able to
run with a physical presence. And that is what Sherrer has, not one of the top
backs in Ohio this year but definitely a D-1 player.
Dave: The Colerain product was overshadowed by his teammate
Mister Simpson last season. But look for a breakout year as Scherrer will be the
go-to guy for the Cardinals. Has enough size and the speed to be a top back.
Many compare Scherrer to Lance Smith another top back in the Class of 2006.
Anton Robinson
(6'1", 205)
Gahanna Lincoln High School
Jeremy: A physical player who probably projects as a
fullback. But nevertheless could be someone who could wind up playing a number
of roles in the right program. I was very impressed with some of the things I
saw on tape. I thought he lacked that break away speed.
Dave: Was able to see Anton play against Huber Heights Wayne
last season. Really liked what I saw then and feel he's a back that's just
starting to get a feel for where he belongs. While not as well know as the
others in this list he's got a spot on my team any day. Very underrated
player.
Cameron Campeau
(5'11", 200)
Kettering Fairmont High School
Jeremy: Another FB prospect, this is typically the type of
player that Miami (OH) takes and steps right in and is a player in that program.
Tough Runner, who will probably wind up at fullback.
Dave: Haven't heard of Campeau? Don't feel bad, many in the
recruiting circles don't even talk about the workhorse back from Kettering
Fairmont. Cameron has speed and the willingness to give up his body. Before all
is said and done he will see at least MAC schools make a push to earn his
signature on signing day. How many other backs can say they carried the ball
sixty three times while scoring six touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions
for a state-record?
Vince Corner
(5’10”, 188)
Springfield North High School
Jeremy: The perfect running back for the spread offense. Has
a great feel for the passing game as well. One of the most under rated players
in Ohio. His versatility is what I love the most. Plus the fact he is one of the
fastest players in Ohio. So break away speed is not a question here.
Dave: Another player not many are talking about. But Bowling Green saw enough to offer Corner early and he took them up on it. Has great
speed on the track and the football field. Will be a hard back to keep off the
Super 50. Look for Vince to make a name for himself in college.
Jahmal Brown
(5'10", 190)
Cleveland Benedictine High School
Jeremy: An inside and out runner. Who has a combination of
speed and power. This is one of the most underrated players out there along with
Corner. I like both of these guys a lot.
Dave: I saw this kid play in the state championship game and
saw Division One talent. Has nice size and speed and knows how to play the game.
Under rated in a deep class of running backs. While I see him at the next level
I don't know if he will make the Super 50.
Anthony Elzy
(5’10”, 185)
Warren JFK High School
Jeremy: Slick runner who plays better than he looks, and who always seems to
get his yards. Could also play and be effective in a variety of offenses. And
his versatility will be key in his case.
Dave: Back who knows how to gain yards. Only one other back gained more yards
last season and he won Mr. Football honors. Would have to place him in the
running for Ohio's top honor this year if he can repeat his junior performance.
While some look at his height other look at the yards.

contacts with college coaches from all over the country. His goal is to contact
Ohio high school prospects and prospects who show interest in the University of

Dave Berk has been covering Ohio High School
prospects for the past several years. Dave got involved with the recruiting
process when his younger brother was being recruited in 1998-1999. Dave found
that many parents were lost in the recruiting process and has tried to help
parents understand what their child is going through. Dave makes it a point to
attend combines, camps, 7-on-7's, scrimmages and games in Ohio during the course
of a year. He also has contacts with college coaches from MAC, Big East, Big Ten
and other smaller level colleges.
