Bearcat Insider reported on Donnie Evege earlier this year, but it’s hard to
ignore this impressive junior-to-be from Huber Heights Wayne High School. Donnie
attended this week’s Bearcat football camp after camping at Miami of Ohio last
week. His physical dimensions are not eye popping (5’ 11”, 187 lbs.), but he was
timed at 4.31 in the forty yard dash at Miami last week. That type of speed will
get any recruiter’s attention.
Donnie is also a very good student (3.7 GPA) and has already gotten a 21 on
the ACT. He’s expecting to play running back and defensive back at Wayne this
year but emphasized he would do whatever was needed of him.
When asked about his criteria in making a college choice, Donnie mentioned
several points. “Location is a big part of it. I want to be close to my family.
Of course, education is also very important. If I do get hurt, I need to have
that degree. Also I want to play fairly early. I don’t want to wait until my
senior year to get on the field.”
Is Cincinnati a serious contender for his services a couple years from now?
“I could see myself playing at Cincinnati. I like this place a lot. I like the
coaches, and I think they like me.”
Donnie knows and likes both Cedric Tolbert and Mike Mickens. Could there
presence at UC help in his recruitment? “I get along with both those guys. We
have a lot of the same interests. I know every situation is different, but if
they like UC, I’m sure I’d like it too.”
The Bearcat football program wants to be a perennial contender in the Big
East, and getting recruits like Donnie Evege would certainly help that goal in
becoming a reality.
