Desmond Marrow of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney High School made the trip south
to Colerain High School this week for the University of Cincinnati’s football
camp. Desmond is a 6’ 3” wide receiver/defensive back with a 38 inch vertical
jump. That kind of size and athleticism could make Desmond a hot commodity in
the near future. In addition, Desmond has good blood lines since his father,
Dwayne, played football at the University of Wisconsin in the 80’s.
Bearcat Insider spoke with Dwayne about his talented offspring and their
plans. “This is our first camp, but we’ll probably go to Penn State and Ohio State too.” Dwayne made it clear that he and his son are looking for more than
just a football program. “Academics are very important to us. Desmond is a good
student with about a 3.0 GPA so we want a school that offers a good education.
We are also looking for a good football tradition and a coaching staff that
makes parents feel comfortable about leaving their child with them. We want to
know Desmond will be taken care of.”
If the Bearcats decide to pursue this young man, it was clear the Marrows had
interest in UC. “We’re very interested in Cincinnati. I’d be lying if I said we
weren’t. It’s a great university with great tradition. Plus there are some kids
from Youngstown on the team that Desmond knows (Delbert Ferguson and Derrick Stewart).”
Although Desmond has not received any official offers yet, he has gotten a
lot of interest from a variety of schools according to Dwayne. “We’ve been in
contact with a number of MAC schools and Big East schools. Boston College has
shown quite a bit of interest. I think it’s just a matter of time before we see
some offers.”
Bearcat Insider will continue to follow this developing story.
