Mike Bohn Hired As Cincinnati's New AD

New AD Mike Bohn

Bearcats introduced new Athletic Director Mike Bohn today in a press conference. Insider caught up with the new AD.

The national search for a new Athletic Director at the University of Cincinnati 13 days after Whit Babcock left to be the AD for his hometown Hokies of Virginia Tech. Mike Bohn leaves the University of Colorado after holding the same position for eight years (2005-2013). Bohn successfully led the Buffaloes' transition from the Big 12 to the Pac-12 Conference.

Before Colorado, Bohn was the AD at San Diego State for 18 months and at the University of Idaho for five years. He also worked under Louisville's Tom Jurich – one of the most respected athletic directors in the country - while Jurich was the AD at Colorado State.

Bohn will take over a UC athletic program that is in the midst of an $86-million Nippert Stadium renovation and is trying to find a more suitable home for its Top 10 basketball program, either in a new arena, a renovated Fifth Third Arena or by moving downtown to U.S. Bank Arena.

Before moving to Colorado State, Bohn served as the Athletic Director at the University of Idaho from 1999 to 2003, as he led the University's transition from the Division I-AA in the Big Sky Conference to the Division I-A ranks.

"To recruit a leader of Mike's caliber and national standing only reaffirms the strength, promise and pride of UC Athletics. Mike has successfully moved multiple high profile programs to greater heights, and I am confident that he will help us to do the same," President Ono said in Thursday's press conference.

"One of the things that really attracted me to this position here at the University of Cincinnati is the teamwork of the University. When you think of teamwork, the University of Cincinnati comes to mind. When you look at the cohesive unit of the University of Cincinnati, we are showing the committment of the of our coaching staff, our president and the student-athletes. If we can bring that intensity that has been present with this program over the past few years, we can do special things here at the University of Cincinnati and the future couldn't be brighter," said Mike Bohn.

Mike Bohn and his family will be introduced to the Bearcat Nation at the men's basketball game against Connecticut.
