It was the start of a new coaching era, entering a new conference, we seen a quarterback battle in the spring, last season at Nippert Stadium as it under goes renovation, injuries and tragedies. But still the Bearcats prevailed through it all to have a successful year.

Cincinnati Bearcats welcome in new coach Tommy Tuberville as they entered a new conference this season. Coach Tuberville came to the UC program as a widely regarded coach and recruiter, after his success at other schools like Auburn and Texas Tech.

Coach Tuberville face the challenges of a new conference, as well as a quarterback battle between seniors Munchie Legaux and Brendon Kay. Coach let the seniors battle it out each and everyday during the spring at Higher Grounds. Legaux came out on top heading into week 1 against Purdue.

In week 2 against Illinois Bearcats would loss Legaux for the year during the game with a leg injury. When Kay took over it seem as the Bearcats had not loss any steps going forward. UC went on a 2 game winning streak, beating Northwestern State (66-9) and rival Miami (OH) (14-0).

On September 21st, the night after a victory over the Redhawks, UC team and community was struck with tragedy. UC freshman Ben Flick was killed in a car accident, while fellow freshman Mark Barr and Javon Harrison were seriously hurt. The Bearcat team would carry the grief into South Florida that following week.

UC came together as the family they are, Flick Nation was born and the fight for a successful season continued on. During pre-game of the Temple game there was a moment of silence for Flick. From that game on the Bearcats went on a six-game win streak.

Heading into the final regular season game UC had a lot to play for, 10-game win season, last home game at Nippert for a year, a BCS berth, beating Louisville and the Keg of Nails trophy. UC was unable to achieve the goal of a 10-game win season this year, but to finish 9-4 and another trip to the Belk Bowl was a success.

Looking forward to the 2014 season, we start at Higher Ground in the Spring with a new batch of freshmen, Coach Tuberville building on last season success, home games at Paul Brown Stadium and a conference championship.
