Insider Profile: Greg Blair

With the 2013 Bearcats football season coming to a close in the Belk Bowl, the storied careers of 17 special seniors will come to a close. One of those special seniors is starting linebacker Greg Blair hailing from Schenley High School in Pittsburgh, PA.

In his 26 games playing for the Red & Black, Greg Blair has amassed 200 total tackles to this point, 16.5 total tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.

His best season statistically was the 2012-13 season where he led the team in tackles with 103, nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He also set his career-high with two interceptions that season. His largest contribution came in a loss to the Fighting Illini of Illinois with a recorded 18 tackles, seven of them being solo. He was a vital anchor for the Bearcats defense winning a share of the Big East Championship last season and their successful campaign thus far this year under first-year head coach Tommy Tuberville.

Blair led UC in tackles and tied for ninth in the AAC with 96 tackles. He accumulated 6.5 tackles for loss while adding five quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, one sack, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. The senior had nine games with five or more tackles and four double-digit tackle games, including 18 stops versus Louisville. With quarterback Brendon Kay receiving the offensive honor, Blair was honored with the Claude Rost Sr. Most Valuable Player award at the Bearcats' annual postseason awards banquet.

When asked how he feels about playing his last game as Bearcat back in the Belk Bowl against the Tar Heels,

"To be honest, it's a surreal feeling. It's going to be difficult pulling that jersey off for the last time when the game is finally over. I just want to go out there and give the travelling fans a great performance and come home with that trophy again."

Also when asked if there were any weaknesses in North Carolina's offense that the defense could exploit,

"I'm not really sure," Blair replied. "I mean the Tar Heels run a high-powered and fast-tempo offense which is similar to what we run here. But I think if we put our best foot forward, this can turn out to be a great for all fans attending."
