After careful consideration, Patrick Coyne asked and was granted a release from his scholarship at the University of Cincinnati on Monday.
Coyne, who came to Cincinnati out of Hamilton (Ohio) Badin High School was a multi-sport performer and considered the No. 19 ranked quarterback in the country in the 2011 recruiting class.
“Over the past couple of weeks I’ve discussed with my parents the possibility of leaving Cincinnati as a student-athlete,” Coyne told Bearcat Insider. “After giving it much consideration, I asked Coach Tuberville for a release from my scholarship and he granted my request.
“My time at the University of Cincinnati has been very rewarding and I’ll leave with lifelong friends and many great memories on and off the field. This was not an easy decision as I love UC and have thoroughly enjoyed my time being part of Bearcat Nation.
“I would like to thank Butch Jones for giving me the opportunity to attend Cincinnati coming out of high school. I would also like to thank Coach Tuberville and his staff in the time they invested in me and wish my teammates all the best this season and going forward.”
At this time Coyne is exploring opportunities to play college football at the FCS level.
