Next Day Analysis: Hoyas Handle the Bearcats.
-While not necessarily a surprise to lose to the top team in the Big East, the way Cincinnati lost is what made the night so disappointing. They did not play well in the first half, struggling to a six-point deficit, but came out firing in the second, turning a 12-point Georgetown lead into a one-point Bearcat advantage with a little over six minutes left in the game. However, UC would struggle from that point forward, eventually losing 62-55, their third loss in the past four games. -Three-point shooting was absolutely atrocious for the Bearcats. They went 4-24 from behind the arc, good for 16%. At this point in the season, I am completely baffled by this team's lack of offensive cohesiveness. They seem to live and die by the three in every game, and recently, they have been dying hard. One would assume that at this point in the season, the Bearcats would understand their strengths and weaknesses as a team. With the play the last few games, I'm not sure that this team does. -Speaking of struggling, Sean Kilpatrick had himself an off game last night. The senior shooting guard, and leading scorer on this team, finished with 12 points on 3-13 shooting, including 1-7, yes, 1-7, from three. He did, however, have a decent all around game, finishing with six rebounds and four assists to go along with those 12 points. When Kilpatrick struggles with his shot, he tends to try and force the issue on offense, usually with less than stellar results. -The Bearcats did do a solid job of attacking the basket on offense as they got to the charity stripe 30 times. The only issue was their inability to capitalize on those free throw attempts. They only hit 17 of the 30 free throws, good for less than 60% from the line. -Jaquon Parker has continued his streak of solid play for Cincinnati. The senior guard finished with a team leading 15 points and six rebounds on an efficient 4-9 shooting, including 1-3 from behind the arc. With Kilpatrick struggling with his shot, and Cashmere Wright having a difficult time coming back from injury, Parker has to be the go-to guy on offense going forward, and he's done a good job of that the past few games. -This is a dangerous time for the Bearcats team. They've lost three of four, and are on the verge of becoming a "bubble team" in regards to an NCAA tournament berth. They have a difficult stretch coming up, with two out of their next four games against ranked teams, not to mention a trip to Storrs to take on the UCONN Huskies next Thursday. A win on the road would do wonders for this team, and will hopefully help them right the ship as this regular season comes to a close.
