Harrison Talks Bearcats Pledge

Javon Harrison told Bearcat Insider on Friday he made a change in his recruitment and pledged with Cincinnati. Monday, Harrison talked about the reasons for the change.

Not only did Huber Heights (OH) Wayne quarterback Javon Harrison make a change in his verbal commitment from Toledo to Cincinnati on Friday. He also committed to a position change once he arrives on campus.

How did the change come about?

"I've been talking with my coaches and my parents a lot since I committed to Toledo," said Harrison. "I had gone to a camp at Cincinnati and they offered, but I had just committed to Toledo.

"I told the UC coaches I wasn't going to do anything at that time because I had a good situation at Toledo. But then I went on my visit to Cincinnati on Friday and things had changed."

For Harrison there was a comfort level with the university.

"I've been to UC several times," said Harrison. "My brother attended UC and was a thrower on the track team last year. So when I visited on Friday, I already knew what UC was all about and it was like icing on the camp.

"I talked with all the coaches and some of the players when I visited and found it to be the place I wanted to be. It's almost like playing for your hometown team because they are so close."

With multiple quarterbacks already committed to the program, Harrison also committed to a position change.

"Toledo said they were recruiting me as a quarterback," said Harrison. "But there seemed to have been some misconceptions about it. But I'm a Bearcat now so that doesn't matter. UC is recruiting me as a safety."

Having been a quarterback throughout his high school career, how much of an adjustment does Harrison feel he'll have to make once he turns to the other side of the ball?

"I think just going from high school to college is a big adjustment," said Harrison. "But for me switching positions on top of that is a big step. I feel I have enough athletic ability to make the switch and I've always told coach (Jay) Minton (Wayne HC) that I wanted to play safety.

"The biggest adjustment is the fact I'm not going to be in as much control as you are as a quarterback. That will be the biggest transition for me."
