Collaros, Schaffer honored by website

COLUMBUS – The University of Cincinnati football team will have the two best players in the state of Ohio, according to OhioCollegeFootball.com.

In the recently released magazine, quarterback Zach Collaros and linebacker J.K. Schaffer, were projected at the offensive and defensive Players of the Year, respectively. The magazine also listed the duo on the OCF Elite Eight.

Schaffer, a Second-Team all-BIG EAST selection last season, led the defense with his 111 tackles and 67 solo stops. It was the second-straight 100-tackle campaign for the junior. He also added 9.5 tackles for a loss; five pass break ups, three sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and quarterback hurry.

He was nominated for the Nagurski Trophy and Rotary Lombardi watch list, along with being nominated for the All-State Good Works Team.

An unanimous first-team all-BIG EAST selection, Collaros started 11 games last season for the Bearcats. He was 225-of-383 for 2,902 yards and 26 touchdowns. He led the BIG EAST in passing yards per game (263.8), total passing yards (2,902), total offense (282.2), and was third in pass efficiency (137.5). He is on the brink of becoming only the second Cincinnati quarterback to pass for 50 touchdowns, complete 500 passes and throw for more than 5,000 yards. He needs 662 yards passing, 181 completions, and 14 touchdowns to join Gino Guidugli (2001-04) in the elite list.
