"Yes, I went down for my official visit with Cincinnati this weekend."
"I had offers from Stanford, Virginia, Minnesota, Ball State, Marshall, and Western Kentucky," Smith said on Sunday after returning from his official visit. "I wanted to see what Cincinnati had to offer over other places and had visited Northwestern unofficially over the summer."
As for making his choice to be a Bearcat, Smith saw a chance to play an early role during his career with his hometown team.
On the field, Smith brings great overall athletic ability and feels he has the tools to follow in some former and current Bearcats footsteps.
"I feel I bring intensity and aggressiveness to the field on every snap."
One thing that helped Smith with his decision was the words of former Bearcats All-American linebacker Andre Revels mother.
"Andre Revels is my neighbor and his mother has said how much he enjoyed going to Cincinnati."
As for the visit, Smith and the other future Bearcats enjoyed their time on campus.
"We got to hang out and went out to eat at a lot of different restaurants. We played some video games, hung out with some of the upper classmen and they told us what to expect and what it will be like. We also visited the dorms and other areas on campus. Maalik Bomar was my host and we had a lot in common as we both played the same position in high school."
The weekend may not have been the best weather seen in the Tri-State area, but Butch Jones and company had a solid weekend with multiple verbal pledges collected.
